Central Cross Country runners took three of the top five places in the 6th grade One Mile run. Odman Camargo came in 2nd place. Ashley Mendoza-Perez came in 4th, and Chris Reno came in fifth place. Jason Harris ran in 7th place for the 8th grade Two-Mile Run.

After the intense heat of the first two cross country meets, Monday’s temperature was great for running! However, we all worked up a good sweat.

Ashley Mendoza-Perez had her family there to cheer her across the finish line. What actually is cross country? It is a sport in which teams and individuals run a race on open air courses, over dirt, grass, hills and valleys. It is unusual in that it is both an individual and a team sport; runners are judged on individual times and teams are judged on a points-scoring method. At high school, they run 3.1 miles. Cross country is technically one of the most physically enduring sports. Many argue that it is one of the hardest sports to train/perform/ participate in. That’s debatable, but cross country does put the biggest burden on your body. No one has had to be carried over the finish line, yet!
