Boys Basketball- The last of the games

To follow up on the last game, we interviewed the basketball players for their thoughts.

When asked what he liked about basketball, Eduardo Sandoval said, “I like how fun it is, how much time we put into teamwork, and how it makes us better as people. We’ve trained by making lots of lay ups and shooting baskets.” Are you ready for your next game at the tournament? “Yes, I am and hopefully we’ll win.” What do the coaches do to motivate your team to get stronger and players to improve their game? “Coach Batie and Laird point out what we do, our mistakes.Then, we try to make them better.” What are your team strengths? “Our teamwork  and our energy.” What does you team need to do to improve? “We need to work on our passing and keeping our energy.” What are your personal strengths? ” Running  fast.” What do you need to improve on? “Shooting.”

David Orozco likes “shooting and passing balls to my partners.” How do you train? “We shoot hoops and focus on communication.” What does the coaches do to motivate the team to get stronger and players to improve their game? “They tells us what we did wrong and how to improve next time we do it.” What are your team’s strengths? “Lay ups.” What do you need to work on? “I need to work on passing the ball more.” What is the most challenging thing to do in this sport? “The most difficult thing to do in this sport is communicating with your teammates  during the game.”

When asked about basketball, Mogisha Casey exclaims, “It’s fun, it’s a good sport, and it’s my favorite sport!”  How do you train?  “Every time I go outside or I go out to the park, I shoot around and play basketball with some other kids.” What do the coaches do to motivate the team to get stronger and players to improve their game?  “Give us a speech and tell us to try our best and stuff.”  What are your teams strengths?  “Our team’s strength is our defense. We need to work on our turnovers.”

Alexander Estell likes “the rush and feeling of  competition you get with basketball.”  How do you train?  “By running a lot.”  Are you ready for your next game?  “I am 100% ready to beat Rosedale!” What do the coaches do to motivate the team to get stronger and players to improve their game?  “Run more drills, and talk to us individually about our strengths and weaknesses.”  What are the team’s strengths?  “Lay ups and getting under the basket. We need to work on our three-point shots.” What do you need to work on?  “I need to work on my dribbling and my three point shots.”  What’s the most challenging thing for you to do in basketball?  “Get the rebound and having to use my body and strength.”

How did you feel this season? “It was better than last year’s I felt like we were more competitive and I even had the chance to coach some games” what went well this season? “we actually had some athletes, some people that were athletic and we scored more points than we ever had score” what was the most exciting thing to happen? “winning our playoff game at home” what was the worst thing to happen? “losing to Rosedale” what do you want to improve for next year? “scoring points” what were you nervous about? “I didn’t want to get blow out” what did you improve this season? “I think that the team got better at being discipline and could run the practice themselves and they have leadership” who makes the most difference in winning a game- the players, or the coach? Why? “I think the players, so when we win it’s because of the players but when we lose it’s because of the coaches.” what would you change for next year? “I might ask the players if they want to have a summer team so that might help us out next year.”
