Keiryae Emery interviewed Mr.Francis, asking “What do you do in anime club?” He replied “Anime Club is a safe space for anime lovers and anybody that reads manga. We will dedicate each meeting to a specific anime. The first two meetings we covered Fairytale and My Hero Academia. Some people like to draw anime during this time, but we also like to watch the episodes from the very beginning of the series so we all know what’s going on in the shows.” Then he was asked, “What exactly is anime?” He exclaimed, “Anime originated in Japan. It is a very specific style of Asian animation. Anime refers to moving pictures and not the drawings. Manga is what we refer to when we talk about just the art form.”

“The CMS anime club,” Mr. Francis adds, “was actually an idea brought to me by a sixth grader named Lilly.” What is the best anime and why is it the best? He replies, “I am actually new to anime. I grew up watching Pok’emon and Dragonball Z but I’m very happy to learn about other new ones that haven’t been around since I was growing up.” When asked what sparked his interest in anime, he cheerfully replied, “I already run the Storyteller’s Club on Fridays and I had many students who where interested in the art form and wanted a specific day to celebrate. So, that is why we created our own club–to do just that.” Do you have any recommendations for people who are not familiar with anime? Mr. Francis replied, “I would definitely tell them to come to Anime Club and listen to people who have been fans since the very start. They can tell you what to watch, what the best seasons are, the best adaptations, and whether to watch it with subtitles or without. There’s just a whole world out there to choose from. Definitely find someone with a Crunchyroll account, because that’s where the gold is at!”
