Nathan Maikho Takes First at Wrestling District Tournament

This was Samantha Mendoza interviewing Coach Laird.  What do you think about your first matches? “Its always good to give people experience so its just fun to have kids get out there for the first time its kinda scary, they just have to get the experience.”   What are your teams strengths?  “Were good at following directions, learning new things, listening, they learn stuff pretty quick when I teach it to them.” What are your strengths? “My strengths trying to be positive, being consistent,and thoughtful and thorough.”  What does the team need to work on?  “We need to work on not reaching back, need to work on sprawling better, and probably just being more aggressive.”   What do you need to work on to improve?  “Probably not teaching the guys to many moves at once because then they cant remember all of them.”  What does it take to become a great wrestler?  “You got to work harder than everybody else out there so being a hard worker, and going above and beyond what your coaches ask of you is how you become great.”  How do practices help the team get better?  “We do drills, we do condition, we learn moves, and we practice them over and over again, and then we wrestle each other in matches.”   What is the best part of wresting so far?  “The best part is when someone learns a new move and pulls it off and is excited about it.”  What is the worst part about wrestling so far?  “Getting pinned.”

This is Daniela Maldonado interviewing Coach Q. What do you think about your first matches?  “There was a lot of nervousness, a lot of wrestlers, it was the first time, but at the same time it was exiting.”  What are your teams strengths? ” Determination” What is your own strength?  “One of my strengths would be motivating the wrestlers to continue getting better.” What does the team need to work on?  “Movement you just got to keep moving, don’t stop, and concentration.” What do you need to improving on?  “I guess the same, focus and during the matches making sure that I give the right instructions to the wrestlers.”  What does it take to become a great wrestler?  “Determination, a lot of work, and focus.”  How do practices help the team get better? ” With repetitions, it helps them remember what they need to do, the moves as well, it helps keep them fit.” what is the best part of wrestling so far? “Winning” What is the worst part so far? “Losing and getting pinned”.

What do you think about your first match, this year? “Well, I thought that they were fun” What is one of your teams strengths?  ” My team’s strengths is that we work the hardest and we don’t stop” What are your own strengths? “My own strengths are that I go to two different practices” What does your team need to improve on? ” My team needs to work on sprawls” What do you need to work on? “Personally, I need to work on my throws and my legs” What does it take to become a great wrestler? ” It takes hard work and dedication” How does practice help you improve? ” It helps me get better by just working hard and once you step on the mat, you go and you don’t stop” What is the best part of wrestling so far?  The best part is when we step on the mat and start wrestling people ” What is the worst part so far? “The worst part is when one of my team members get hurt”.
